Nasal Flow and Resistance (Rhinomanometry) Test

A Nasal Flow and Resistance, or Rhinomanometry Test, is a simple computerised test that assesses nasal airflow obstructions by measuring pressure and flow during the normal inspiration and expiration of your breathing cycle.

In a Rhinomanometry Test measurements are performed before and after the application of a nasal decongestant spray. If there is evidence of nasal obstruction and there’s no significant improvement after the decongestant spray, then an anatomical abnormality is suspected. This could include a deformity of the cartilage or bone within the nasal cavity blocking normal airflow.

If significant improvement occurs after the decongestant spray has been applied, it may suggest a mucosal congestion such as Rhinitis.
